Aloha Theatre names new artistic director, announces 2020-21 lineup

The Aloha Theatre on the Kona coast of the Island of Hawaii has named a new artistic director and announced the shows for its upcoming season.

Courtney Booth, formerly Upper School Theatre Arts Director at the American Renaissance Academy School of the Performing Arts in Kapolei, Oahu, has accepted the post of artistic director and will start the job July 1.

"Courtney's vision and leadership will play a critical role in the next stage of the theater's growth and service to the West Hawaii community," Christe Edwards, chairperson of the theater's board of directors, said in a statement.

The theater also recently unveiled its 2020-21 mainstage calendar of shows, with the first production, "The Laramie Project," hitting the stage August 14-30. Following Oct. 9-25 are two one-act plays that dive into the lives of Hawaii surf legends, "Eddie Would Go" and "Queen of Makaha Rell Sunn." From Dec 4-20 the theater will host a production of "Frozen Jr." and the first show of 2021 will be "Little Shop of Horrors" running from Feb. 12 to March 14.
