Hawaii Gov. David Ige is urging people to postpone their travel
to the Islands for at least the next 30 days because of the Covid-19 crisis. He
has also banned all nonessential travel for state employees.
In addition, the governor has ordered the closing of
restaurants, bars, visitor attractions and entertainment centers.
Effective March 20, all passengers disembarking cruise ships
will be screened. The governor said airports are working on implementation
plans for screening arriving visitors.
“The actions I’m announcing today may seem extreme to some
of you, and we know that it will have negative effects to our economy. But we
are confident that taking aggressive actions now will allow us to have a
quicker recovery when this crisis is over,” said Ige.
