Based on the book "A Timeless Princess," written by Denny Miyasato and released in October 2023, a musical of the same name will debut on Oahu in October at Waikiki's Royal Hawaiian Theater.

The large-scale theatrical musical tells the fictional story of a present-day marine transported back in time to 1898, the same year the United States annexed the islands. It looks at the final years of the Hawaiian Kingdom and the lives of Queen Liliuokalani and Princess Kaiulani.

"Like James, the protagonist in 'A Timeless Princess,' I, too, was fascinated by Princess Kaiulani's life," said Honolulu born and raised writer and producer Denny Miyasato in a news release. "It inspired me to rewrite the past and change the course of history utilizing a sacred artifact infused with the mana of the monarchy as the pivotal symbol of the story, which is best told through song and live performance. It's been years in the making and we're excited to finally perform for residents and visitors alike in one of Waikiki's finest theaters."

The 90-minute show was created by Miyasato, director Michael Ng, composer Woody Pak, cultural advisor Blaine Kamalani Kia and director of operations Elizabeth O'Brien.

Performance dates are Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays at 4:30 p.m., and Mondays at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 16, 2026-May 15, 2027. Tickets are on sale now and prices are $95 for adults and $75 for children ages 3-11.
