Hawaii interisland carrier Island Air has named David
Uchiyama as its acting president and CEO.
Uchiyama will take over for Les Murashige, who held the
position for a little over three months.
In January, Oracle founder Larry Ellison sold his
controlling interest of Island Air to two Hawaii investor groups managed by the
Honolulu-based firm PacifiCap, founded by Jeffrey Au.
“We appreciate the assistance that Les Murashige ... provided
during the ownership transition,” said Au, who is also director and chairman of
Island Air’s executive committee, in a statement. “David has been instrumental
in expanding our strategic relationships with business and industry partners,
in addition to overseeing key operational initiatives of the company.”
Uchiyama, a former vice president of brand management for
the Hawaii Tourism Authority, had been serving as Island Air’s chief commercial
officer and board chairman.
