Kauai golf courses promote island's greens

LIHUE, Hawaii -- Five of the islands resort and golf properties joined together to form a new destination group with the theme Kauai: Discover Golfs Ultimate Island Green.

Comprised of 135 holes between the Kaua'i Lagoons Golf Club, the Kiahuna Golf Club, the Poipu Bay Golf Course, the Princeville at Hanalei and the Puakea Golf Club golf courses, the consortium will work closely with the Kauai Visitors Bureau in order to market the islands golf culture, as well as raise funds for improvements and worldwide advertising.

On Maui, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Feb. 6, ESPN will broadcast live the 19th Annual Wendys Champions Skins Game from Mauis Grand Wailea Resorts championship Wailea Gold Course.

Four pairs of perhaps the most legendary players will team up at the famed Maui course in an alternate-shot team event on Feb. 6 with a Pro-Am event held Feb. 5; tickets are expected to go on sale this month.

Golfers including Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Gary Player, Hale Irwin and Arnold Palmer will vie to surpass Nicklaus 2005 record Skins earnings, when he walked away with $340,000.
