Lihue Airport on Kauai will get $18 million in improvements during a multiyear renovation project, the Hawaii Department of Transportation announced.
The airport's hold room, passenger check-in area and ticket lobby will all be augmented during the work.
Lihue Airport is Hawaii's fourth busiest airport, and the changes will relieve congestion, according to state officials.
The ticket lobby and hold room improvements are scheduled for completion by the end of 2018, while the remaining construction work should be finished by 2019.
