Taking 'let's get away from it all' to the next level

As hotels and resorts around the world slowly reopen, a growing number of luxury companies are turning to  exclusive buyouts to lure travelers who remain leery of mingling in the age of Covid-19.

In recent weeks, we've reported about private buyouts of boutique properties from Panama to Greece.

Joining the trend this week are Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas, which is marketing its private island resorts in Mozambique, the United Arab Emirates and the Maldives, and the Acre Hotel treehouse resort set on a lush farm in the foothills of San Jose de Cabo, Mexico.

For travelers looking for a true Robinson Crusoe-style getaway, Anantara's most intimate -- and cheapest -- option is its 12-villa resort on Medjumbe Island off the coast of Mozambique, which starts at just under $20,000 a night. Activities includes scuba diving, snorkeling and fishing trips.

In the Maldives, Anantara is offering both of its resorts for full buyouts.

The smallest, the 80-villa Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas starts at $95,000 a night, which includes its beachfront and overwater pool villas, daily breakfast, access to the resort's six bars and restaurants, spa, tennis courts, bicycles and fitness centers.

The  Anantara Dhigu Maldives Resort, which has 110 suites and villas, starts at $100,000 a night and includes a wide  variety of dining options and outdoor activities.

The largest of Anantara's private islands , Sir Bani Yas, which has three resorts as well as camping facilities,  offer several different buyout options.

The entire island, which includes 64 rooms, suites and villas at Desert Islands Resort and 30 private villas each at Al Yamm and Al Sahel Villa Resorts, starts at $89,000, while the individual resorts  ranges from $24,000 to $40,000 a night.

Mexico's Acre Hotel, meanwhile, has created two buyout plans that give guests exclusive access to the property's 11 open-air treehouses, set on 25 acres of farmland. Under the cheaper plan, starting at $7,500 a night, guests will also have private pool access and private dinners and servers, but the main restaurant and bar will remain open for outside guests. A full  buyout of the resort and bar and restaurant starts at $12,500.
