Nibs restaurant at Hotel Cacao. The 60-room Hotel Cacao opened on Playa del Carmen’s Fifth Avenue in the heart of the destination’s restaurants, clubs and boutiques.

The opening marks the debut of the Cornerstone Collection, founded in 2013 by the creators of San Miguel de Allende’s Hotel Matilda, noted for its “hippie chic” lifestyle of contemporary accommodations and cutting-edge dining experiences.

Hotel Cacao features a central court with a hyacinth lily pond, bold color accents, a rooftop bar and the Nibs restaurant that features ingredients of the region.

The restaurant’s name reinforces the chocolate theme of Hotel Cacao: nibs are unsweetened chocolate chips, created when cacao beans are crushed in the chocolate-making process.

Hotel rates range from $208 to $500 per room, per night, double, with continental breakfast.
