The state of Jalisco this month designated Puerto Vallarta’s historic center a protected Cultural Heritage area. The protected area runs from the malecon through the Zona Romantica and up into the Conchas Chinas neighborhoods.

Top sites to see within this protected area are the Church of the Virgin of Guadalupe, the central plaza, Los Muertos Pier, and centuries-old cobblestone streets and homes. As part of this new designation, the area is now protected by state and federal law from changes that take away from the integrity and history.
