The Waldorf Astoria Riviera Maya will observe Dia de los Muertos on Nov. 2 with a series of cultural events highlighting Mexico's annual celebration of life and remembrance.
Programming includes a Michoacan-inspired altar in the Astoria Lounge decorated with marigolds, candles and offerings in tribute to loved ones. Traditional Catrina figures, recognized as a national symbol of the holiday, will be featured for guests to enjoy. At JA'O, the resort's Mexican cantina, a Cazuelas & Cantaritos dinner will showcase regional cuisine and cocktails. Live music by local artists is scheduled on the Lobby Terrace, alongside family-friendly activities such as foam skull decorating and Catrina face painting.
Dia de los Muertos, recognized by Unesco as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, is celebrated throughout Mexico as a way to honor ancestors and connect generations through ritual, art and tradition.
