Red Carnation Hotels announced the opening of Xigera Safari Lodge on Dec. 1 in the Okavango Delta, Botswana.

Located on the western side of the Moremi Game Reserve, Xigera is the dream project of the South African hoteliers, the Tollman family. The lodge is named after the Xigera, the pied kingfisher that makes its home in the watery channels of the reserve.

The lodge sleeps a maximum of 24 guests in 12 individually designed suites, including one family suite. Each suite is designed to reflect the environment and features a deck with uninterrupted views of the flood plain. The Xigera Family Suite consists of two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, dressing area and outdoor shower. These bedrooms are joined by a shared lounge area that opens onto a deck. Designed for family safaris (children over the age of 12 are welcome), the spacious suite is fully air conditioned and can accommodate up to four guests. It is also a popular option for those traveling with friends.

Experiences offered at the lodge include glass-bottom mokoro excursions, a unique sleepout experience in a baobab treehouse located less than a mile from the camp, spa treatments by Tata Harper and game drives.

Rates at the Xigera Safari Lodge start from $2,320 per night. This includes accommodation on a fully inclusive basis, park fees and all activities. Spa treatments are additional.
