Wilderness Rwanda unveiled Bisate Reserve, an exclusive property adjacent to Volcanoes National Park that offers luxury for gorilla-trekking enthusiasts.

The intimate lodge accommodates just eight guests in four thatched villas, each featuring private decks with hot tubs, fireplaces and 360-degree views of all six Virunga volcanoes. The property serves as a sister lodge to the existing Wilderness Bisate Lodge.

Designed by architect Nick Plewman and interior designer Caline Williams-Wynn, the lodge combines traditional materials including thatch, timber, hand-chipped volcanic rock and local basketry. Facilities include a mud room for trek preparation, a climate-controlled wine tower and the exclusive Bisate Kwanda day lounge.

Executive chef Angelus Karangwa oversees the culinary program, which emphasizes East African flavors and locally sourced ingredients from two on-site kitchen gardens. The lodge offers both private in-villa dining and communal experiences.

Beyond gorilla-trekking, activities include golden monkey-viewing, mountain climbing and hiking to Dian Fossey's former research center. Cultural experiences feature sessions with local artist Rigobert Uwiduhaye, whose gorilla artwork is displayed throughout the property.

The lodge represents a significant conservation investment, with Wilderness having planted over 100,000 trees to transform the 42-hectare concession from farmland to forest.

"Our core mission here is to transcend luxury hospitality to embrace a profound commitment to conservation," said Wilderness Rwanda Chairman Manzi Kayihura.
