Travel Weekly and TravelAge West's Global Travel Marketplace (GTM) and GTM West events will transition to virtual events for this year.
In the initial wake of the pandemic, GTM West and GTM were moved from May and July to Sept. 19 to 21 and Oct. 29 to 31, respectively. GTM West was scheduled to take place in Tucson, Ariz., at the Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa, and GTM was to take place at the Diplomat Beach Resort in Hollywood/Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
"Northstar Travel Group is wholeheartedly committed to live travel industry events," said Alicia Evanko-Lewis, Northstar's executive vice president of Travel Group Global Events. "Events are at the core of our business. Because of this, we firmly believed in the value and necessity of live connections and held our plans -- though deferred to later in the year -- to produce a live event."
The pandemic continued to create unexpected challenges, many of which were out of the control of the event organizers. With airline service constantly changing, extended school closures, company policies prohibiting travel plans and some attendees not being ready to travel, GTM event management determined the live events experience were not possible this year. Additionally, the Diplomat Beach Resort remains closed and does not have a scheduled opening date.
For those reasons, the team moved to virtual events for 2020, still believing firmly in the power of connection and dedicated to delivering on the quality and collaboration of advisors and suppliers that is unique to GTM.
The events will still take place -- Sept. 19 to 21 for GTM West and Oct. 29 to 31 for GTM
-- and attendees will still be participating in one-on-one appointments
(just via video), collaborative boardroom presentations, sponsor
presentations and interactive networking opportunities.
