Out with the old, in with the new diners, that is.
Earlier this month, the Golden Gate Hotel & Casino shocked Las Vegas when it announced that Du-Par's Restaurant & Bakery would close that same day. The L.A.-based diner famous for its plate-filling pancakes had opened at the casino in 2010, but citing struggles with lease payments, the hotel announced its departure just hours before it closed, saying the property would be evaluating possibilities for the diner's former space in a corner of the casino floor.
But as one diner departs, another is arriving just down the street. On March 3, the Plaza Hotel & Casino will debut Brightside Breakfast and Burgers. The property describes the restaurant as an "authentic New York-style deli" serving breakfast fare like egg sandwiches, eggs Benedict and avocado toast as well as made-to-order burgers and sandwiches. Brightside will also offer grab-and-go options like bagels, paninis and matzo-ball soup.
While the deli won't operate 24 hours a day like Du-Par's had, it will cater to the late-night crowd, staying open until midnight Sundays to Thursdays and until 2 a.m. on weekends. And for those who really need a pancake fix, there's always the Du-Par's outpost at Suncoast Hotel & Casino, which opened last year.
