The Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Calif., will officially open the doors to Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure on June 4.

The much-awaited area featuring characters from the Marvel universe was originally set to open last July, but it was delayed by the park's closure due to the pandemic.

Josh D'Amaro, chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, announced the new opening date Thursday afternoon during a virtual event alongside Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.

Avengers Campus is themed to the popular Marvel characters. The story of the land surrounds Tony Stark, a founding member of the Avengers and the alter ego of Iron Man, who offered up the site as a place to train the next generation of superheroes. The land itself represents one of Stark Industries' complexes.

The heart of Avengers Campus is Avengers Headquarters, where guests will regularly see the Avengers in action, such as Captain America, Black Panther and Black Widow. Guests will also be able to have daily encounters with Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Ant-Man and The Wasp, Doctor Strange, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther and Thor.

Avengers Campus also includes the Worldwide Engineering Brigade, or WEB, that brings in characters like Peter Parker, who will be there, ostensibly to invent new technologies. Disney said Spider Man will regularly flip 60 to 65 feet in the air above the building, then swing down to ground level to wave and say hello to guests. WEB houses the attraction Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure, in which Spider Man will encourage guests to sling webs and capture out-of-control Spider-Bots. The attraction has no height requirement.

Tom Holland reprised his role as Spider Man for the attraction.

Also anchoring Avengers Campus is the existing attraction Guardians of the Galaxy Mission: Breakout!, which opened in 2017.

Guests will be able to train with Black Panther's bodyguards, the Dora Milaje, in Avengers Campus. Dora Milaje leader Okoye will make her debut appearance in a Disney park at the campus. In the Ancient Sanctum, Doctor Strange will train guests in the mystic arts.

Avengers Campus will have several dining locations. At the Pym Test Kitchen, guests can purchase food at inventive sizes. Adjacent will be the Pym Tasting Lab, which will feature craft beer that fills glasses from the bottom up thanks to a new draft system. Guests can also grab a bite at the Shawarma Palace, where the Avengers joined Tony Stark after the Battle of New York, or Terran Treats, a food cat featuring churro spirals and other intergalactic eats near Mission: Breakout.

The campus will offer two main shopping locations: WEB Suppliers, where guests can purchase interactive Spider-Bots that can be customized and upgraded, and the Campus Supply Pod where they can stock up on Avengers Campus gear.

Though currently closed, the Disneyland Resort's theme parks will reopen to the public on April 30. Park reservations will be required, and there will be a number of health and safety protocols in place, including mandatory face coverings and temperature screenings.
