Temperatures are starting to drop in the Southern Nevada desert, making it the perfect time for food, wine and beer festivals.

From high-end affairs that offer the opportunity to sample food from some of Las Vegas' finest restaurants, to more laid-back beer festivals, the fall is a great time for foodies to visit. Whether your focus is sampling the best dishes, trying a craft cocktail or discovering your new favorite microbrew, the upcoming festival schedule has the perfect event.

The annual Las Vegas Food and Wine Festival will be based at SLS Las Vegas this year. The four-day event, running Sept. 15 to 17, is bookended by a Thursday night "Whole-Ox Feast" at Jose Andres' Bazaar Meats and a Sunday brunch at SLS's Mediterranean restaurant Cleo. The Friday and Saturday grand tastings feature bites and sips from more than 60 acclaimed restaurants, spirits and wineries. Charlie Palmer, Saipin Chutina, Frank Pellegrino Jr., Brad Kilgore and Francois Payard are just some of the participating chefs.

While the Strip will be the place for culinary adventures that weekend, suds seekers should head to downtown Las Vegas where the Golden Nugget is welcoming its seventh installment of Beerfest, Sept. 17 and 18. Award-winning brews will be paired with beer-friendly bites with a backdrop of live entertainment through the two-day event. The fest kicks off Friday with the "All American Beer Tasting" featuring 125 beers, and then moves waterside for the Saturday "Oktoberfest Pool Party."

New to the fall food festival schedule is Love & Vine, debuting at the Palazzo on Oct. 7. The poolside evening of wine and food pairings features top Nevada and California chefs, all of whom received the elite title of Maitres Cuisiniers de France, or Master Chefs of France.

"We are excited to further strengthen our relationship with the esteemed Master Chefs of France as we debut Love and Vine," said Sebastien Silvestri, vice president of food and beverage for the Venetian and the Palazzo. "Love and Vine is the perfect fall event for guests to experience renowned winemakers and chefs as they team up in honor of the fall harvest crush."

On Oct. 15 the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas will host Crafts & Cocktails, an outdoor event with live music and views of the Strip. There will be 75 craft beers, both domestic and international, for guests to sample, in addition to a unique selection of cocktails. Some popular breweries offering entries include Great Basin Brewing, Big Dog's Brewing, Firestone Walker Brewing, New Belgium Brewing and Anchor Brewing. For an extra fee, attendees can also access the food area that will be featuring beer-inspired dishes such as house-made bratwurst topped with smoked onions and German mustard on a pretzel roll.

Finally, in downtown Las Vegas, Motley Brew's Downtown Brew Festival will be celebrating its fifth anniversary Oct. 22. In addition to live entertainment throughout the afternoon at the Clark County Amphitheater, the Brew Festival boasts a lineup of 200 top craft brews from over 60 different regional, national and international breweries. In between beer festival goers can feast on food from Truck-U Barbecue and Oming's Kitchen among others.
