The Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas will be shutting down for several months in 2020 as it transitions to the Virgin Hotel Las Vegas.
Plans call for the property just east of the Las Vegas Strip to close shortly after the Super Bowl in early February and reopen late in 2020, according to initial reporting in the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The work includes an upgrade to the Joint music venue.
Richard Bosworth, president and chief executive of hotel owner JC Hospitality, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that project planners determined that the closure would avoid inconveniencing guests and ensure reopening before January 2021.
The Hard Rock Hotel, which opened in 1995, has had several owners and room expansions through the years. Its Rehab Beach Club, which was open from 2004 until 2018, hosted the most famous pool party in the city, attracting stars such as Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Justin Bieber. "Rehab: Party at the Hard Rock Hotel" aired on cable TV from 2008 to 2010, and the 25th season of MTV's "The Real World" was filmed at the location.
