The Belleview Biltmore Hotel, known as "The White Queen of the Gulf" when it opened in Bellaire, Fla., in 1897, will reopen as the Belleview Inn in December. The property, located just south of Clearwater, hosted dignitaries, celebrities and every president from the time of its opening until it closed in 2009. (It has laid dormant since, while the adjacent golf courses and country club have remained open.)
The 35-room boutique hotel will combine the opulence of founder Henry Plant's original vision -- including the original Tiffany stained-glass windows, guestroom doors, fireplaces and grand staircases -- combined with modern amenities.
The refurbished property will include a resort-style pool, fitness center, a snack shop named for Henry Plant's wife and a history room with an exhibition and historical information for guests who want to learn more about the storied hotel. The Tiffany Room, which will feature the original Louis Comfort Tiffany panels from the hotel, will serve as an elegant meetings and event space for small groups.
Guests will have access to Florida's oldest golf course as part of their stay. The Belleview Country Club also opened in 1897, features a 10,000-square-foot spa, sports shop and tennis and pickleball courts as well as dining options.
The Belleview Inn is now taking reservations for stays beginning Dec. 1, with rates starting at $195 per night.
