The newest national ski pass is now on sale.

Indy Pass, featuring 34 independently-owned ski areas, is available for $199 for the 2019-2020 ski season. Owners of the pass will get free access to each participating resort for two days per year.

The pass, which has been developed by Portland-based Fish Marketing, is a response to the growing aggregation of U.S. ski areas by Vail Resorts and Alterra Mountain Company. Those companies are also competing fiercely in the season pass market with their respective Epic and Ikon passes, which offer a combination of unlimited and limited access to ski areas across the U.S. and around the world, but at prices that that range from $699 (for the Epic Local Pass) to $1,049 (for the Ikon unlimited pass).

In a prepared remark, Geoff Hatheway, the CEO of Indy Pass participant Magic Mountain in Vermont, said the new product will easy the entry barrier for up and coming skiers.

"The Indy Pass is priced right for anyone to try; it has a wonderful variety of interesting ski areas to explore; and showcases the community aspect of skiing which can create deeper bonds with customers and more ski days in the future," Hatheway said.

Among the 34 Indy Pass ski areas are 12 in the western U.S., eight in the Midwest, 12 in the east and two in British Columbia.

The largest groupings of participants are in Washington, where White Pass, Hurricane Ridge, Mission Ridge and 49 Degrees North are on the pass; and in Wisconsin, featuring members Little Switzerland, Nordic Mountain, Trollhaugen and Tyrol Basin.
