The Great Lego Race, a virtual-reality (VR) roller coaster, made its debut at the Legoland Florida Resort in Winter Haven. The family-friendly ride uses the technology to transport riders to a virtual road rally where they race against Lego minifigure competitors.
Legoland says it is the first VR coaster in North America that is designed specifically for kids.
Riders wear optional VR headsets while participating in the ride to experience a first-person point of view as a Lego race car driver. Additionally, as part of the entry to the ride, guests use video screens to design custom Lego vehicles and choose their teams. Other themed elements include video screens that demonstrate the VR experience and ready guests for their turn to ride.
The ride's VR elements sync with the rollercoaster's twists and turns, drops and climbs in order to create and simulate an experience for all senses.
