The Current, a newbuild Marriott Autograph Collection hotel, will open in the Tampa Bay area this summer. The 10-story, 180-room building will feature water views from every guestroom.

The hotel will feature a ninth-floor, water-facing fitness center as well as an infinity pool, a full-service restaurant, a 2,300-square-foot ballroom and the city's highest rooftop bar. Guests of the Current will also have access to a private beach with complimentary use of watersports equipment and fire pits. The Current will also feature a rotating art gallery showcasing works by local Tampa Bay artists. The first exhibit will feature work by abstract expressionist painter Alberto Murillo.

The first-floor signature restaurant, Julian, will offer lunch and dinner, featuring internationally inspired small plates. The rooftop lounge on the 10th floor is called Rox, and overlooks Tampa's skyline, featuring a floor-to-ceiling glass atrium and open-air terrace. Chef Andrew Basch, former executive chef of the Marriott Suites Sand Key and Watercolor Grill House, will oversee the culinary side of hotel operations.

The Current will also feature other local touches. The Oxford Exchange, a dining and retail space near downtown Tampa, has curated the hotel's retail space, and local coffee roaster Buddy Brew Coffee will manage the lobby coffee bar with locally roasted beans and craft coffee beverages.
