See how Rome was built at Vegas' Natural History Museum

The story goes that Caesars Palace has no apostrophe in its name because it was not meant to signify the palace of the Roman emperor, but rather the place where everyone feels like royalty, just like Caesar.

Now visitors to Las Vegas can actually experience what life was like during Caesar's time thanks to a new exhibit at the Las Vegas Natural History Museum.

"Ancient Rome: The Empire that Shaped the World," an exhibit at the Las Vegas Natural History Museum, will be on display until Sept. 11.

"Ancient Rome: The Empire that Shaped the World" explores an epic era in world history starting with Julius Caesar's victory over the Gauls in 52 B.C., and follows Rome as it grows from a republic to an empire that deeply impacted history and culture.

Visitors get a hands-on experience, exploring military war machines, inventions like the pottery wheel and grinding mill, and innovations attributed to the Romans such as cranes and water pumps. Kids can learn how to tell time just like the Romans did, with sundials and water clocks, and explore historical maps that depict the world as it was known then. The secrets to Roman engineering, from aqueducts to the Colosseum, are revealed, as well as the battle strategies that made the victories leading to the formation of the Roman Empire possible.

The more than 50 intricate, interactive exhibits were hand-crafted by three generations of Florentine artisan experts.

The traveling exhibit will be at the Natural History Museum through Sept. 11. Admission to the Las Vegas History Museum starts at $10 for adults. For more information on the Las Vegas Natural History Museum and the Ancient Rome exhibit, click here or call (702) 3843466.
