Northern Alaska Tour Co. is offering two new winter tours to the Alaska Native village of Minto 125 miles north of Fairbanks.
Minto has about 150 residents, most of whom are Athabaskan. Most of the residents still follow a subsistence way of life revolving around waterfowl hunting, salmon fishing, moose hunting, berry picking, trapping and ice fishing.
The Minto Aurora Fly/Drive tour is an overnight excursion giving guests time to explore the town, interact with Alaska Native elders and experience a variety of winter activities, including watching the aurora borealis.
Guests are flown to Minto for the day and then return to Fairbanks by car the same day. More information is available at www.northernalaska.com.
