In what will be their first concert performance in four years, U2 will open the MSG Sphere at the Venetian in Las Vegas this fall.
An advertisement during the Super Bowl confirmed the long-standing speculation that the legendary rock band would open the $2.2 billion, 17,500-seat venue.
For the series of shows, with dates to be announced, Bono, The Edge and Adam Clayton will be joined by drummer Bram van den Berg, sitting in for Larry Mullen Jr., who is taking time off for a back surgery.

"The Sphere show has been in the works for a long time. We don't want to let people down, least of all our audience," the band members said in a joint statement announcing the shows. "The truth is we miss them as much as they appear to miss us. … Our audience was always the fifth member of the band."
The Sphere will have what Madison Square Garden Entertainment says will be world's highest-resolution LED screen that wraps up, around and behind the audience; a multilayered audio system; and 4-D, multisensory technologies such as scents and changing temperatures.

More than 3.2 million fans worldwide saw the band's last tour, which marked the 30th anniversary of "Joshua Tree." U2 has toured the globe countless times, released 14 studio albums, sold more than 170 million albums and won numerous awards.
