In an effort to increase awareness about opportunities to visit Florida's farms, vineyards and ranches, Visit Florida has partnered with the Florida Agritourism Association to create an app that helps visitors partake of Florida's bounty. The free app is available for iPhone (http://bit.ly/agiphone) and Android (http://bit.ly/agandroid) devices.
"Agritourism has become more and more popular as visitors seek off-the-beaten-path adventures," Ken Lawson, president and CEO of Visit Florida, said in a press release. According to Lawson, many of the 116.5 million visitors to the state enjoyed agricultural attractions such as U-pick farms, livestock ranches, wineries and more.
The app includes a comprehensive farm guide, seasonal produce calendar, a map for finding farmer's markets and a list of more than 100 agricultural events around the state. Users can see venue information, RSVP for events and navigate to farms and other attractions.
Currently, the app features events like opening day at the Joshua Citrus groves in Arcadia (north of Fort Myers) and Long & Scott Farms' corn maze in Mount Dora (40 minutes from Orlando), Tallahassee's French Country flea market and the Black Willow Ranch Fall Festival in Brevard County, not far from the Kennedy Space Center.
