American Cruise Lines has taken delivery of the American Melody, the company's fourth in its Modern Series of riverboats, and has decided on names for the next two vessels.

The American Symphony and American Serenade are scheduled to be delivered in 2022.

Following sea trials last week, the 175-passenger American Melody sailed to New Orleans, from where its maiden cruise will depart on Aug. 27. The Melody will operate Mississippi River cruises through December, including a 22-day cruise from New Orleans to St. Paul, Minn.

The riverboat features the Skywalk walking track on the fifth deck and private balconies for all staterooms and suites. The next two riverboats also will feature the Skywalk.

Maryland-based Chesapeake Shipbuilding has constructed all four of American Cruise Line's modern riverboats and is building the Symphony and Serenade, too.

The first riverboat in the company's Modern Series, the American Song, was delivered in 2018. The American Harmony followed in 2019 and the American Jazz in 2020.
