Crystal River Cruises said it is expanding its fleet to meet post-pandemic demand for European sailings with the reintroduction of the Crystal Mozart, a double-wide ship that it had renovated and used to launch river cruising in 2016.

Following the subsequent rollout of four additional vessels, the company in May 2019 said that the Crystal Mozart would be retired in 2020 and transferred to parent company Genting Hong Kong for use on a venture to be announced later.

But on Monday, the company said the Mozart would return to the Crystal river fleet in March 2022 with seven-night, roundtrip itineraries from Vienna on the Danube River.

"This expansion meets the increased demand and pent-up desire to explore expressed by our guests across the globe as indicated by our strong advanced bookings," said Walter Littlejohn, senior vice president and managing director of Crystal River Cruises.

He said the ship "holds a very special place in the hearts of those of us at Crystal and to many along the Danube River."

Additionally, in what the company called an industry first, the Crystal Mozart will offer 38 deluxe window suites dedicated to solo travelers with no single supplement on all voyages. The move, the company said, will reduce capacity from 158 to 120 guests, making it the most the most spacious river ship with the highest crew-to-guest ratio in the European river industry.

With the return of the Mozart, a former Peter Deilmann ship, Crystal said it would reposition the Crystal Mahler to the Rhine, Main and Moselle rivers with a variety of itineraries ranging from five to 16 nights, including some voyages that include all three rivers.
