Scenic has added two new Christmas market river cruises for 2018, due to growing demand  for more and different kinds of holiday cruises over the past few years.

Expecting to see interest in holiday sailings increase even more in 2018, the company developed a new 12-day Rhine Christmas Markets with Switzerland itinerary, which includes a new four-day, multi-city tour of Switzerland before or after an eight-day Rhine cruise; and a new 11-day Danube Christmas Markets with Prague itinerary that adds three days in Prague to an eight-day sailing on the Danube River.

Scenic's holiday cruises range from eight to 22 days in length. Traditional European Christmas markets take place annually throughout Europe each year during Advent, or the four weeks leading up to Christmas. They typically offer a festive atmosphere, live musical performances, seasonal delicacies and the opportunity to shop for holiday gifts.

The Rhine itinerary includes visiting the 100 cottage-style stands in Koblenz, exploring the 120 stands in the old town of Rudesheim, and visiting one of Europe's largest Christmas markets in Strasbourg. There is also a private concert in the Mannheim Palace in Mannheim, Germany, and a cheese-making experience at the Restaurant Le Chalet in Switzerland's French city of Chateau d'Oex. Prices start at $5,295 per person.

The Danube itinerary includes shopping in the markets of Prague's Old Town and Wenceslas Square. Stops include Budapest, Vienna, Durnstein, Melk, Passau and Regensburg, with dozens of holiday markets along the way. Fares for this itinerary start at $3,595 per person.
