Israel's attack on Iran's nuclear facilities on June 13, and the expectation of retaliation and escalation, is disrupting flights throughout the region.
Tel Aviv's David Ben Gurion Airport is indefinitely closed, and El Al has suspended all fights into Israel. In addition, El Al has closed new bookings on all flights through June 30.
Various other carriers have canceled and rerouted flights due to airspace closures in Iran and elsewhere. Emirates canceled flights to and from Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Iran. The situation is similar at Qatar Airways, where flights to Iran, Iraq and Syria have been suspended.
Also, closure of Iranian airspace has forced flight rerouting. Air India said a dozen flights had either been diverted or returned to their origin. Among them were seven flights to or from the U.S., five of which were diverted while two returned to India.
Flights from the U.S. were impacted, as well. United Airlines Flight 84 from Newark to Tel Aviv made it most of the way across the Atlantic before returning to New Jersey, while Delta Flight 234 was east of Newfoundland before turning back to New York, according to Flightradar24.
