Alaska Airlines will continue its ramp-up in San Diego next spring, adding five more destinations.

The Seattle-based carrier will add San Diego flights to Dallas-Fort Worth; Raleigh-Durham; and Oakland and Santa Barbara, Calif., on April 22. Flights between San Diego and Tulsa, Okla., will begin March 18, marking the carrier's entry into Tulsa.

Oakland service will be four-times daily; Dallas and Santa Barbara service will be twice-daily; and Raleigh and Tulsa service will be daily.

Alaska will compete with up to 10-times daily American service on San Diego-Dallas-Fort Worth and up to 10-times Southwest service on San Diego-Oakland, Cirium flight schedule data shows. Alaska is the only airline slated to fly the other three routes.

The five new routes will take Alaska to 49 nonstop destinations from San Diego, up from 41 prior to this August. Alaska said its San Diego flying will be up more than 35% year over year next spring. The airline is second in San Diego to market leader Southwest. Growth at the Southern California airport is being facilitated by the opening last month of the New Terminal 1, which has 19 gates.

New routes from Portland, Ore.

Alaska has also announced eight other new routes for next spring, including four from Portland, Ore., and a new route to Hawaii.

On May 13, the airline will add daily flights from Portland to Baltimore, Philadelphia and St. Louis as well daily summer seasonal flights to Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Alaska's new route to Hawaii will operate daily during the summer season to Burbank, Calif., beginning May 13.

The airline will also add two new destinations from its home in Seattle: Tulsa and Eureka, Calif. The Tulsa route will begin March 18 alongside San Diego-Tulsa. Eureka will be a new destination for Alaska. Daily Seattle-Eureka flights start April 8.

Finally, Alaska will begin year-round service between Ontario, Calif., and Santa Rosa, Calif., on March 18.

To make way for the 13 new routes, Alaska will reduce or eliminate flying on some routes from Los Angeles and San Francisco, the airline said, without providing specifics.
