Alaska Airlines will launch flights to London Heathrow and Iceland next spring, connecting the destinations with its new long-haul base in Seattle.
The airline will utilize a two-cabin Boeing 787 Dreamliner on the London-Seattle route, and the plane will have a new exterior design inspired by the aurora borealis.
The 787-9s with the new livery will debut in January. All 787s in Alaska's fleet are scheduled to have the new livery by the spring.
Alaska Air Group acquired widebody 787s and Airbus A330s when it acquired Hawaiian Airlines in September 2024. The 787s have 34 enclosed suites with lie-flat seats in business class.
Launch dates have not yet been announced for the upcoming European service, but Seattle-London will operate daily and year-round, while Seattle-Reykjavik will be a seasonal route operated daily. Alaska will fly Boeing 737 Max aircraft between Seattle and Iceland.
The Europe routes are the second and third announced for the Alaska brand since it began building Seattle into an international hub earlier this year. The carrier will launch Seattle-Rome flights next spring.
Alaska's first long-haul service began May 12, connecting Seattle with Tokyo Narita. Seattle-Seoul service is slated to begin Sept. 12.
Alaska will compete with Delta, Virgin Atlantic and British Airways on Seattle-Heathrow flights. The airline will compete against Icelandair on the Seattle-Reykjavik route.
