Bahrain-based Gulf Air will launch service to New York JFK on Oct. 1.

The three-times weekly flights from the airline's base in Muharraq will be its lone route to the U.S. and will be operated with Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft equipped with business class and economy cabins.

According to the website Planespotters, Gulf Air has a fleet of 43 aircraft, including 10 widebodies, all Dreamliners. The airline also just announced an order of 18 more Dreamliners as it prepares for a major long-haul expansion.

Gulf Air is not a member of one of the three airline alliances. It codeshares with American on flights to 12 U.S. gateways from London, Paris and Frankfurt.
