Breeze Airways has substantial growth plans for its base in Providence, R.I.
The discount airline is serving Providence from 16 destinations this month, according to Cirium flight schedule data. Plans call for 35 Providence routes within the next five years, including three routes outside the continental U.S.
Breeze expects to eventually operate 200 Providence flights per week and base up to 12 aircraft at the city's T.F. Green Airport.
On Wednesday, Breeze CEO David Neeleman and Rhode Island Gov. Dan McKee announced the expansion at a public event.
Breeze Airways marked its third anniversary of ticket sales on May 21. Over its three years of operation, Breeze has expanded its route map from an initial 16 destination to its current 56.
This week, Breeze took delivery of its 25th Airbus A220-300 aircraft. Breeze is also currently flying a dozen Embraer E190 planes, according to Planespotters.net, but plans to remove the Embraers from scheduled operations this fall.
