Soekarno-Hatta International
Airport in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta opened its $558 million Terminal 3
this week.
The terminal will initially be
used exclusively by the county’s flag carrier, Garuda Indonesia, for domestic
flights only. But construction on the terminal will continue even as
operations are underway.
Once it is fully complete in the
first quarter of 2017, the terminal will first accommodate Garuda Indonesia’s
international flights, and then international flights from other carriers.
The terminal has a capacity of 25
million passengers per year, raising the airport’s total capacity to 70 million
passengers, and putting it on a par with Kuala Lumpur International Airport in
Malaysia, said Soekarno-Hatta.
