Southwest has set launch dates for service between San Diego and Hawaii.

The carrier had long said that San Diego would be among its first four U.S. mainland gateways to Hawaii. It will begin daily San Diego-Maui service on April 14 and daily San Diego-Honolulu service on April 20.

San Diego will join Oakland, San Jose and Sacramento as Southwest’s gateways to Hawaii. (Sacramento service starts Jan. 19.)

The San Diego launch will bring Southwest to 28 daily departures between the continental U.S. and Hawaii. The carrier will also fly 38 interisland services per day in Hawaii as of April 14. Southwest began flying to Hawaii in March.

Southwest has extended its flight schedule through June 6.  As part of that extension, the carrier added 17 daily departures from Baltimore/Washington. All the additions will be in the form of frequencies on established routes. With the additions, Southwest will operate nearly 240 flights per day from Baltimore, its fifth-largest base of operations.
