Spirit Airlines has brought back change and cancellation fees. The fees apply only to the carrier's basic fare, not to its higher-level Go Savvy, Go Comfy and Go Big bundles.
Flight changes made at least 60 days in advance remain free. Changes made fewer than 60 days in advance range in price from $59 to $99, depending on how much notice is provided to the airline.
Spirit did away with change and cancellation fees last May in an effort to appeal to a broader range of flyers. The airline is currently in Chapter 11 bankruptcy but expects to emerge in the coming weeks after receiving court approval of its restructuring plan on Feb. 20.
"We have received great feedback from guests about our new travel options that offer unmatched value and an enhanced experience," the airline said in an email. "With any new product, we closely evaluate data trends and performance and make adjustments as appropriate."
The new fees apply to tickets purchased on after Feb. 5.
