Turkish Airlines has ordered 50 Boeing widebodies.
The deal includes 35 787-9 Dreamliners and 15 of the larger 787-10 model. In addition, Turkish has taken options for up to 25 more Dreamliners.
The carrier also announced its intent to order up to 150 more 737 Max narrowbodies.
The orders will help Turkish work toward its stated goal of increasing its fleet, including its low-cost band AJet to more than 800 planes in the coming decade. The combined fleet count is currently more than 480 planes, according to Planespotters.
Turkish, which flies to more countries than any airline in the world, also placed an order of 230 Airbus aircraft in late 2023 and secured purchase rights for an additional 125 planes. The order included 80 widebodies and150 narrowbodies.
Turkish serves 14 U.S. destinations from its hub in Istanbul. Future U.S. destinations could include Minneapolis, Charlotte, Philadelphia and Orlando, the airline's chairman, Ahmet Bolat, told Travel Weekly last year. Turkish envisions eventually serving 20 U.S. destinations, Bolat said.
