United will fly its first mainline flight with free WiFi for MileagePlus members on Oct. 15. That inaugural service follows the airline receiving FAA certification for its Starlink satellite service on Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The flight will operate out of Newark, though United hasn't announced the destination.

United debuted the Starlink WiFi in May in its regional fleet and now has it installed on half of its regional aircraft, the airline said in a Friday announcement.

The airline said it plans to install the SpaceX company WiFi across more than 16 fleet types in the coming years.
