Southwest Airlines will offer free WiFi to Rapid Rewards members, beginning Oct. 24.
The free offering will go live at once on every Southwest aircraft instead of being rolled out gradually across the fleet, as Delta and United are doing.
Southwest is partnering with T-Mobile, which is also a Delta WiFi partner.
Southwest's announcement places it in line with what has become an industry standard. Each of Southwest's rivals have either begun offering free WiFi to loyalty program members or have announced plans to do so soon.
Delta was first in early 2023 and now has free WiFi for SkyMiles members across its domestic mainline fleet as well as on much of its international fleet and a portion of its regional fleet, with deployments continuing.
United began offering free WiFi for MileagePlus members in the spring on its first aircraft and plans to continue installations over the next several years. American will begin offering free WiFi to AAdvantage members in January on approximately 90% of its fleet.
JetBlue blazed the trail in the U.S., having offered the service to all flyers since 2013.
