Ultralow-cost Icelandic carrier Wow Air will launch daily
summer service between its hub in Reykjavik and New York JFK on April 26.
The addition of JFK, Wow's 14th U.S. destination, amps up
the carrier's already heated battle with Icelandair in the U.S. market. Wow
will now compete against Icelandair at both JFK and Newark within the New York
metroplex. By next spring, the two airlines will also go head-to-head in
Boston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Cleveland and Chicago. Both airlines also fly to the
Washington, D.C./Baltimore metroplex.
Wow is offering introductory one-way rates of $99 from JFK
to Paris, Amsterdam, London Stansted, Frankfurt, Dublin, Copenhagen and Berlin.
That price doesn't include checked bags, carry-ons or food service, among other
potential ancillary services.
