PARSIPPANY, N.J. -- Avis named Gerard Quirk vice president of global travel sales and marketing, replacing Daryl Thrasher, who served as vice president of travel industry sales.

Avis said that Thrasher will stay with the rental car firm in a "senior advisory role" for the next six months.

Quirk held the position of vice president of international sales for the past four years.

Avis said the move is part of the company's efforts to consolidate domestic and international sales and marketing.
