BALTIMORE -- Adam's Mark Hotels & Resorts dropped its lawsuit
against the NAACP after the U.S. District Court here refused to
grant an injunction that would limit the NAACP's boycott against
the company's hotels.
The boycott began in July after negotiations broke down between
Adam's Mark and the NAACP.
The negotiations were an attempt to settle a racial
discrimination suit that is scheduled for trial in November.
Adam's Mark filed the suit on July 28 with a goal of prohibiting
the boycott and limiting demonstrations at its hotels.
The November trial concerns a suit stemming from events at the
May 1999 Black College Reunion in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Five African-American guests of the Adam's Mark in Daytona, who
were attending the college reunion, said the hotel discriminated
against them by providing inferior accommodations and service and
imposing restrictions that were not imposed on the hotel's other
guests.
