Anantara Resorts and Spas to grow Thai portfolio to four

BANGKOK -- Anantara Resorts and Spas will grow from two to four hotels by the end of 2004 with the opening of two new resorts in Thailand.

The Anantara Royal Coco Palm Khao Lak opened on Sept. 16, while the Anantara Resort and Spa Koh Samui is scheduled to open on Nov. 1.

The Samui property, like its two sister resorts in Hua Hin and Chiang Rai, is wholly owned and operated by Anantara Resorts and Spas Asia. Anantara will initially manage the property in Khao Lak, but is negotiating for a stake in the resort, the company said. With the opening of 108 rooms and suites in Samui and 51 villas in Khao Lak, the Anantara groups room count will jump to 436.

The Anantara Royal Coco Palms is on the beach north of Khao Lak, about an hours drive from Phuket Airport. Rates start at $400 a night. The Anantara Resort and Spa Koh Samui lies on the islands northern coast next to Fishermans Cove about 10 minutes from the airport. Rates start at $185.
