The deadline for closing the Isle of Capri casino at Our Lucaya Resort in Freeport, Grand Bahama, may be extended for another two months.
Government officials are reviewing applications from casino investors and operators interested in taking over the operation, Minister of Tourism Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace told the Nassau Guardian.
The U.S.-based casino company announced this spring that it would close its casinos in the Bahamas and Coventry, England, at the end of May to focus on its U.S. casinos. Our Lucaya casino operations later were extended through August.
Closing the casino would put 234 employees out of work.
Casino officials said net annual revenue at the Our Lucaya casino slid 30%, from $15.5 million to $11 million, for the 12 months ended May 2009.
Isle of Capri has operated at Our Lucaya on Grand Bahama since 2003. The resort complex includes the Radisson Our Lucaya Resort (formerly a Westin) and the Our Lucaya Reef Village (the former Sheraton Grand).
