Ray Caye Island resort in Belize, formerly Hatchet Caye, has reopened after an extensive renovation and rebranding.

The newly purchased and rebranded 20-room property, located 18 miles off the Belize coast, underwent a yearlong transformation giving it four new oceanfront villas (each with a private plunge pool), six new guest rooms, and six renovated waterfront cabanas. It also has installed a Tesla Powerwall system, enabling the island to run exclusively on solar energy.

Ray Caye has long been a destination marina, and its Pirate Reef dive shop and Lionfish Grill were both renovated. The guest-only areas have been expanded to include a pool, the full-service Catch831 restaurant and a private beach. A new wellness center has a gym, fitness area, yoga studio and spa treatment room.

Named for the local Spotted Eagle Rays, the resort officially reopens in January but is currently accepting bookings in a soft-opening phase.

The 7.4-acre island is near the Belize Barrier Reef, and day trips include sport fishing, scuba diving and snorkeling. The resort has a mile of shoreline and guests have unlimited use of the resort's water toys.
