The first hotel in the history of San Francisco’s 235-year-old Presidio military base will open in April 2012.
The Inn at the Presidio will be built at the base’s Pershing Hall and will include 22 rooms whose rates will range from $195 to $350 a night.
The hotel will be operated by Waterford Hotels and Inns on behalf of the federal government-controlled Presidio Trust.
Waterford operates four other properties, including Cavallo Point: The Lodge at the Golden Gate, which located in Fort Baker in Sausalito, just north of San Francisco.
The Presidio is located on the northern tip of San Francisco is the southern terminus of the Golden Gate Bridge. It opened as a Spanish military base in 1776 and continued to operate until 1994.
It’s now part of the Golden Gate Recreation Area, which is overseen by the U.S. National Park Service. Among other operations within the 1,500-acre Presidio is Lucasfilm, George Lucas’s film-production company.
