LONDON -- Hyatt International will take over management here of the Churchill Hotel, which is operated by the InterContinental Hotels Group, as of May 1.

The 445-room hotel, on Portman Square near Marble Arch, is owned by The Churchill Group Ltd. and will be reflagged as the Churchill Hyatt Regency London.

In a statement, Hyatt president Bernd Chorengel said the chain is "enormously pleased to return to the heart of London with our core brand."

Longtime London hotelier Michael Gray, formerly of the Hyatt Carlton Tower, has been tapped as general manager.

Hyatt plans an estimated 18-month renovation involving cosmetic improvements to guest areas, coupled with extensive refurbishment of the "back-of-house" infrastructure.
