Hotel Indigo has opened its first LEED-certified property, the Hotel Indigo San Diego Gaslamp Quarter.

The hotel, which overlooks the San Diego Padres’ ballpark, is the first hotel in San Diego certified for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certified and one of only 19 in the U.S.

"From the rooftop down, Hotel Indigo is a model of sustainability, and we're delighted to debut the brand's first green hotel in San Diego," said Janis Cannon, vice president of global grand management for Hotel Indigo, InterContinental Hotels Group’s lifestyle brand.

The 12-story, 210-room Hotel Indigo San Diego is topped with green roofs on the ninth and 12th floors, which will reduce energy consumption by cutting the need for heating and air conditioning and lowering the urban heat island effect, IHG said.

Additionally, the company said, the hotel's Phi Terrace Bar and meditation deck is the first installation of MoistureShield composite decking, made from recycled polyethylene plastic and recycled wood fibers.

Other green elements include a terrace herb garden for use at Phi Bar and Bistro, floor-to-ceiling windows for natural lighting and ventilation, recycling and composting programs and special parking for fuel-efficient vehicles.
