A five-suite luxury hotel, Hotel Amparo, opened Jan. 1 in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

Owned by Taylor Goodall and Mariana Barran de Goodall, the hotel was developed in a historical building that was the mayor's residence. It was renovated to showcase both the original Spanish colonial-style architecture and mid-century furnishings sourced from countries like France, India and Denmark.

A rooftop wine bar offers imported fine wines unavailable anywhere else in Mexico, the hotel said; the menu will emphasize wine made through natural winemaking processes. A high-end coffee bar features the town's first La Marzocco espresso machine.

Hotel Amparo also offers exclusive experiences, such as tours of local markets with resident artisans, culinary classes in the hotel's teaching kitchen and gallery concierge services to assist with purchasing and shipping art.

Rates start at $325 per night, based on double occupancy, and include daily breakfast, happy hour on the terrace and an evening dessert hour.
