Marriott International is laying off some of the staff at the headquarters of Starwood Hotels & Resorts in Stamford, Connecticut.

Marriott is laying off 163 workers in Stamford, according to the Connecticut Department of Labor. The layoffs are slated to take place during the first two weeks of January.

Marriott completed its $13 billion acquisition of Starwood in late September. Marriott, based in Bethesda, Maryland, said last month that it intends to remain in Maryland's Montgomery County, and that it is in talks to move into a new headquarters in downtown Bethesda.

Marriott said it would make a decision on its new headquarters by June, and added that it planned to build a Marriott hotel with at least 200 rooms at its new headquarters.
